What We Believe
Gawler Uniting Church holds to an orthodox understanding of faith. We believe the bible is the true and accurate word of God, we believe that Jesus who came as a human, died for our sins and on the third day rose again. We believe that through his life, death and resurrection we can have new life. We believe that the Holy Spirit speaks and guides us today.
We believe that God calls all to have a personal relationship with him and that we are equipped to serve the world. We understand that the church and all the members of the church have a God-given role to play in the community.
We believe that worship is important and that God speaks to us through our worship experiences. We value real relationships with each other and while this is hard in larger gatherings we place a strong emphasis on Life Groups.
As a church we believe that we are to invite and welcome people into our church community. That we are to connect those who come and nurture all in faith. We believe that we are to equip and disciple our members and then for them to be sent and to serve the wider world.
HISTORY
Gawler Uniting Church has a rich history spanning more than 170 years. Having been established long before the Union of the Uniting Church in Australia in 1977, it carries tradition from across the Methodist, Congregational and Presbyterian churches throughout the Gawler District. The church is situated on Tod Street, which was built in 1869 as Gawler (Tod St) Methodist Church. Yet the current worshipping community has members and a heritage of worship, witness and service from Gawler West, Willaston, Gawler River and Virginia Methodist Churches.
